Iranians view Iraqi Kurdish people as brothers: Pres. Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to fostering strong relations with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, emphasizing the shared cultural and historical ties that can serve as a foundation for regional development through mutual cooperation.

AhlulBayt News Agency: President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to fostering strong relations with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, emphasizing the shared cultural and historical ties that can serve as a foundation for regional development through mutual cooperation.

On Sunday, on the sidelines of the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025, Pezeshkian met with Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation across various fields, including trade, economy, science, culture, and investment. He stressed that utilizing these opportunities would reinforce ties and contribute to regional prosperity.

Addressing broader geopolitical challenges, Pezeshkian noted that many religious and ethnic conflicts are fueled by external forces seeking to disrupt unity and hinder progress. He underscored the necessity of dialogue and collaboration to counter such efforts and promote stability.

Barzani welcomed the meeting, emphasizing that Pezeshkian’s recent visit to the Kurdistan region had significantly strengthened relations between the two sides. He expressed optimism about ongoing security cooperation and announced that, following discussions with the Iranian president, a meeting between governor generals of Iran’s border provinces and officials from the Kurdistan region would be held soon.

Highlighting economic potential, Barzani reiterated Iraq’s Kurdistan region’s readiness to expand trade and investment partnerships with Iran. He also noted that efforts were underway to enhance conditions for Arbaeen pilgrims, ensuring a smoother and more efficient pilgrimage experience.
